Augusta-Aiken Audubon Bi-Monthly Meeting Minutes November 12, 2020

The November meeting was the chapter’s second Zoom Video meeting. There were twelve connections for the meeting approx. fourteen people were in attendance. The presenter was Don Wouri, “Doing the Previously Unimaginable – My Changing Perspective on Bird Photography.” Don provided instructions and tips on bird photography and provided examples of his photographs and errors to avoid.

President Brandon Heitkamp provided some instructions for using Zoom.

Announcements:

The January meeting will also be conducted on Zoom and will be the annual “Show and Tell”. There are some logistics to be worked out. John Demko will provide instructions on this in December.

On December 5, 2020 at 9:00 am at Silver Bluff there will be outdoor celebration (social distancing and COVID-19 cautions being observed). There will be a dedication for the new pavilion and an announcement of the first recipient of the Paul Koehler Volunteer of the Year award.

Christmas Bird Count (CBC) for Augusta is December 19, 2020. Due to COVID-19 this will be restricted. Individuals and families can bird their yards and local parks.

Christmas Bird Count (CBC) for Aiken is December 24, 2020. The “normal” territories will be covered by the participants. This is a closed count due to COVID-19.

Programs

Doug Walker reported that he has not lined up any speakers for 2021 but there are two speakers that were cancelled this year that are still interested in presenting. There was consensus that the two should be contacted about willingness to do virtual presentations. Doug was asked to schedule one of the presenters for a future Zoom meeting. The presentations are Congaree and Native Plants.

Questions were raised about the room at the North Augusta Community Center. Have we been paying for the room since April even though COVID-19 measures prevented us from using it? Can we reserve it once the pandemic is over? Brandon will contact the Community Center.

Business

Officers for next year were discussed. Lois agreed to be the President. Gerald is willing and able to continue as treasurer. Nominations are needed for the Vice President and Secretary.
