Augusta-Aiken Audubon Bi-Monthly Meeting Minutes September 9, 2021
There were 14 in attendance for the September meeting. Members met in person and on Zoom. Chapter president Lois Stacey called the meeting to order. The program was Winter Birding in Iceland by Alice and Doug Walker. They showed birds and landscapes from their trip to Iceland in March 2018.
Gerald provided the treasurer’s report.
Announcements:
There will be Girl Scouts at Silver Bluff working on their Conservation Badge.
Leaving the water level down at the ponds is bringing in different inland shorebirds. Whimbrell was added to the Silver Bluff bird list.
Fall Migration Count will be held on the first Saturday of October. Paul will compile for Aiken County.

Business
Stream monitoring continues and August testing was completed.
Grant money was received for the East Aiken garden. Mulch was installed by member volunteers.
Prescribed burns are going on at Silver Bluff to encourage the growth of long leaf pine for red cockaded woodpeckers.
“Birds and Brew” will be held on 9/30/21 from 6-8 pm at Riverwatch Brewery in Augusta. This is a free event and Audubon South Carolina will have food and drinks available for attendees. It is an opportunity for Audubon members, birders, community leaders and elected officials to connect and discuss issues affecting birds and people in South Carolina. There will also be a bird walk and a banding demonstration on the morning of the 30th at 9:30am at Silver Bluff Audubon Sanctuary.
Storks and Coffee went well. Donations were similar to Storks and Corks. Feedback was positive. Attendees enjoyed the cooler temperatures.
A motion was made and approved for the chapter to pay $162 for a Zoom account.
The cost of maintaining the web site will be discussed in a future meeting.
Field Trips
There will be a field trip on 9/10/21 to Lovers Lane.
The meeting adjourned around 9:00 pm.
