RULES OF THE ROAD
AAAS 2018 BIRDATHON

Pledges

Pledges may be made at a set amount or on a per species basis, either of which is to be determined by the donor. If the "per species" option is chosen, the donor is free to set an upper limit, i.e., $.50 per species up to $50.00. Other options include a set amount per species, with the donation increasing if a higher goal is reached, i.e., $.25 per bird, increasing to $.50 for every one over 150.

Donations by participants are encouraged, but are not required.

A pledge form will be provided to participants. Feel free to hit up anyone and everyone: family, friends, colleagues, people who owe you because you donated to their favorite cause, your stockbroker....

Participants

Anyone may participate, but inexperienced birders may want to hook up with a team consisting of members with more expertise. It can be an excellent way to learn to identify birds.

Each participant will receive an enameled Audubon Birdathon pin and a chance to win a drawing for a prize donated by Wild Birds Unlimited and aninvitation to the after-event cookout at Silver Bluff.

What to Count and How to Document

The count will be conducted on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from midnight to midnight.

Both seen and heard birds are countable.

Any birds that appear on eBird's rarities list for a particular location in late April should be documented and described in a manner that would be acceptable to eBird. The Birdathon coordinator will determine if a sighting is countable. Photographs are encouraged!

A bird list will be provided, which will include space for location seen/heard. A general location is fine, i.e., Silver Bluff, Aiken State Park, my backyard, etc.

Deadlines and Contact People

All species tallies should be submitted by May 6. This short deadline is necessary so we can establish a grand total, and those people who have pledged based on the number of species counted will know how much their donation will be.

Contact Alice Walker at 803-649-5929 or carolinawren211@yahoo.comto receive pledge forms, and bird count lists. Please notify Alice if you plan to participate, and also if you want to join a team.

All donations should be submitted by May 5, 2018, and should be mailed to:

Augusta-Aiken Audubon Society
4542 Silver Bluff Road
Jackson, SC. 29831

Please do not send cash! Checks should be made payable to "Audubon". If a pledge sponsor makes a check payable to you, endorse the back of the check with, "Pay to the order of Audubon." The Augusta-Aiken Audubon Society is a 501(c)3 organization, and all contributions are tax deductible.
